Journeyperson Mechanic - Heavy Duty or Automotive
SOUTHLAND is currently seeking a Journeyperson Mechanic (Heavy Duty or Automotive) to join our team of maintenance professionals. This is a self-directed and independent worker's dream role! This role is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses.
Rockyford is a small family oriented agricultural village with close proximity to Calgary, Airdrie, Strathmore, Drumheller and the surrounding areas.
We provide a company vehicle with a gas card to make the commute from any of these locations.
Duties
- Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses
- Diagnose equipment problems
- CVIP Inspections
- Respond to breakdowns
- Spring and winter maintenance
- Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
- Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
- Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
Requirements
- Journeyperson Ticket (Heavy Duty or Automotive)
- Own hand tools
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- 2 - 5 years related experience
- Valid Driver's License (Class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
- CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
- Exposure to working on diesel engines
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools, including micrometers, brake drum gauge, Ohmmeters, and AVR (Amps, Volts & Resistors)
- Computer proficiency
Remuneration
- $42.00 - $45.00 per hour
- Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)

- Annual Tool and Boot Allowance (pro-rated from start date - available in last quarter of the year, and each subsequent year)
