Plant and Cost Accountant
Mitchell Plastics Technical Centre
Our Mitchell Plastics Technical Centre in Kitchener is looking for a Plant and Cost Accountant. Reporting to the Regional Controller, the Plant and Cost Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and costing functions of the division.
The Role
- Oversee the accounting and costing functions of the division to ensure accurate information, efficient operations and fostering the Mitchell Plastics culture
- Supervise, set goals, and complete annual performance reviews for direct reports
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and review reconciliations that are prepared by direct reports
- Monitor and report on bank activity across various banking platforms
- Maintain the fixed asset register and reconcile the fixed asset register to the General ledger.
- Ensure that fixed assets are tagged and physically verified in line with company policy
- Set up new part numbers, as well as BOMs and labour routings
- Analyze and book the entries that are required to bring the General ledger in line with the Inventory sub ledger
- Monitor and ensure that service and obsolete inventory are accounted for in line with company policy
- Lead month-end processes including account reconciliations, accruals, and analysis of vendor accounts
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
- Post-secondary education in a finance or accounting related field
- 2 years of supervisory/managerial experience required
- 5 years accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience optimizing and streamlining processes
- Self-starter who is able to work well with others or in a team environment
- Knowledge of costing, variance analysis, financial reporting, and information systems.
- Computer proficiency in: Microsoft Office, Accpac and ERP system.
- Flexibility to move from project to project quickly and with limited supervision
- Ability to communicate with vendors, customs brokers, and banks
- Understanding of all procedures, forms and labels governing job function
