Plant and Cost Accountant

Mitchell Plastics Technical Centre

Our Mitchell Plastics Technical Centre in Kitchener is looking for a Plant and Cost Accountant. Reporting to the Regional Controller, the Plant and Cost Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and costing functions of the division.

The Role
 

• Oversee the accounting and costing functions of the division to ensure accurate information, efficient operations and fostering the Mitchell Plastics culture
• Supervise, set goals, and complete annual performance reviews for direct reports
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and review reconciliations that are prepared by direct reports
• Monitor and report on bank activity across various banking platforms
• Maintain the fixed asset register and reconcile the fixed asset register to the General ledger.
• Ensure that fixed assets are tagged and physically verified in line with company policy
• Set up new part numbers, as well as BOMs and labour routings
• Analyze and book the entries that are required to bring the General ledger in line with the Inventory sub ledger
• Monitor and ensure that service and obsolete inventory are accounted for in line with company policy
• Lead month-end processes including account reconciliations, accruals, and analysis of vendor accounts
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

 

• Post-secondary education in a finance or accounting related field
• 2 years of supervisory/managerial experience required
• 5 years accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated experience optimizing and streamlining processes
• Self-starter who is able to work well with others or in a team environment
• Knowledge of costing, variance analysis, financial reporting, and information systems.
• Computer proficiency in: Microsoft Office, Accpac and ERP system.
• Flexibility to move from project to project quickly and with limited supervision
• Ability to communicate with vendors, customs brokers, and banks
• Understanding of all procedures, forms and labels governing job function
