Scope
Increase company profitability by providing manufacturing with well-maintained dies and fixtures. Maintain excellent quality and the ability to meet production requirements.
Responsibilities
- Work independently to complete tooling repairs or adjustments during production runs, with minimum interruption to production.
- Complete all work forms including die maintenance check list, spare parts request, time sheets, using a CMMS software. Experience using MVP is an asset.
- Update tooling status after the production run using our MES software (Data collection).
- Update tool location using our MES (Data collection) to one of two locations. Toolroom for services or Production for manufacturing.
- Verify BOM and complete inventory on new tooling in preparation of production runs.
- Maintain inventory of purchase components in the tool crib by logging items used using our MES (Inventory management).
- Make engineering changes, modifications, and repairs to existing fixtures, productions parts, and tools. Ensure that try-outs meet the production schedule requirement(s) or customer delivery dates.
- Setup, operate and maintain a variety of conventional machine tools to cut, turn, mill, drill, bore and grind workpiece as per engineering drawing.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Verify machined parts and purchase components for conformance to specifications using vernier callipers, micrometres and height gauges.
- Update drawings for die components after improvements using CAD software. Key creator and Solidworks experience is an asset.
- Ensure all work adheres to quality standards.
- Actively participate in the design and development of methods of tooling and fixtures in order to meet quick die change objectives.
- Build new tooling or fixtures from strip layout drawings or customer product drawings.
- Test dies in the appropriate press and produce samples to match customer drawings and specifications.
- Complete tig welding as required.
- Assist in directing and overseeing the work of apprentices.
- Advise the leadership team of all potential problems or concerns and offer any opportunities for improvement.
- Work in a safe manner at all times
- Follow all Company safety rules, policies, and procedures and all legislated requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the GM and/or department manager/ supervisor.
- Work in compliance and conform to all applicable standards (e.g. ISO 14001 and IATF 16949).
- Adopt and practice Kaizen principles; participate in Kaizen and GEAR activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of experience as a tool and die maker.
- Toolmaker Certificate of Qualification (preferred).
- Experience working in the automotive industry and/ or with press equipment is highly desired.
- Experience with nitrogen and pneumatics.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Must be a self-starter.
Compensation & Other
- This role pays $33 - $41 per hour commensurate on experience
- This is a full-time, permanent position
