Job description

Job Title: Quality Engineer
Location: Collingwood, Ontario
Reports To: Quality Manager
Employees Supervised: None (may oversee project teams or cross-functional quality initiatives)

Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement and quality assurance initiatives across the production environment, with a strong focus on Statistical Process Control (SPC) and root cause analysis. This role ensures that internal processes meet or exceed both customer and regulatory requirements, and supports the organization's commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence in the automotive glass sector.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • SPC Program Management:
    Plan, implement, and oversee all aspects of the Statistical Process Control program. Conduct audits and upgrade existing systems while developing new SPC initiatives to eliminate waste, enhance productivity, and improve product quality.
  • Root Cause Analysis & Problem-Solving:
    Champion the use of structured problem-solving tools (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, etc.) and coordinate SPC verification to support both internal and external quality requirements.
  • Training & Development:
    Lead and maintain an ongoing training program on SPC techniques for production and quality staff. Deliver refresher sessions and advanced workshops to ensure team proficiency in quality tools and statistical methods.
  • Nonconformance & Corrective Action:
    Identify, document, and address product and process nonconformities. Initiate and recommend corrective actions, verify implementation, and control the flow of nonconforming product to prevent recurrence.
  • FMEA & Documentation Updates:
    Regularly update PFMEA documents and control plans in response to corrective actions or process changes. Ensure that quality documentation remains current, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Customer Focus:
    Act as a quality liaison by visiting customers to investigate issues, validate corrective actions, and promote a proactive quality culture. Ensure all internal and external complaints are addressed effectively and promptly.
  • Audit & Compliance:
    Conduct audits of corrective actions and ensure compliance across all shifts. Monitor adherence to the company's environmental and quality management systems.
  • Quality Improvement Planning:
    Maintain and update the Quality Improvement Plan to support continuous improvement, product consistency, and customer satisfaction.


Qualifications - Required:

 

  • College diploma in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or a related technical field
  • Advanced knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Process Control Plan development
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications
  • Proven instructional and communication skills, with the ability to lead quality teams and investigations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing quality documentation such as PFMEAs, control plans, and process flows
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and statistical software (e.g., Minitab)


Qualifications - Preferred:

 

  • University degree in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent certification
  • Experience in the automotive or manufacturing sector, preferably in glass or related materials
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards
