Facility Labourer ll

Through funding provided by the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, Sturgeon County is hiring a temporary full-time (up to 16 weeks - approximately May 20 to August 29) Facility Labourer II. This position performs general labour activities for Facility Services as required within a strong team environment that encourages, safety and learning opportunities.

Work is typically performed within the County worksites (may require travel outside the County) and may be exposed to extreme temperatures in addition to high levels of noise.

This position may require heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds (24 kilograms), along with frequent squatting, bending twisting, kneeling, crawling and climbing.

Exposure to dust, fumes and working near equipment.

This is a safety sensitive position.

As a CSJ position, must meet the following criteria:

Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment. Candidate must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The candidate may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the candidate was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.

Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**International students are not eligible participants.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Labourer Duties (90%) 
 

  • Assist with furniture assembly, setup and moving.
  • Wall, floor and ceiling painting.
  • Assist in minor carpentry work.
  • Assist in file box coordination.
  • Parts/Supplies pick up deliveries.
  • General facility maintenance where applicable.
  • Facilities shop cleanup and support.


Other Related Duties (10%) 
 

  • Participate in discussions, communicate with supervisor and make recommendations where necessary regarding work assignments.
  • Complete special projects as required.
  • Adhere to the Workers' Responsibilities and Accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health & Safety Management System.


KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE 

Required:
 

  • Highschool diploma equivalent or working towards.
  • Must work safely, effectively and efficiently with others and alone with little or no supervision.
  • Punctual, communicate openly, takes direction well.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Responds to public inquiries in a calm and friendly manner.


Assets:
 

  • Class 5 Driver's License with acceptable Drivers Abstract.
  • Basic facility understanding and organization experience.
