Job description

R.W. Tomlinson is currently seeking a Licensed or 3rd year Apprentice Mechanic for a Lead Hand role. This individual will be responsible for guiding the shop team while maintaining a culture of safety in all areas of shop operations. You will also work closely with the Shop Foreman and Maintenance Coordinator to plan and implement measures to continuously improve efficiency, safety and customer satisfaction.

Job Location: 5597 Power Road

Shift: 1 PM to 11 PM

This position includes a Lead Hand, and Evening Shift Premium. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Act as a resource to the garage staff in solving problems associated with repairs
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications and tune ups
  • Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems, to locate faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair
  • Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools
  • Test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance
  • Complete reports to record problems and work performed
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of systems including chassis, frame, cab, body, engine and drive train, air brakes, steering, and fuel, hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 

  • Completion of secondary school is usually required
  • Hold a 310T Heavy Truck/Coach License, or 3rd year apprentice to be considered
  • Leadership skills with ability to coach and mentor others
  • Proven mechanical abilities in gas and diesel diagnosis and repair
  • Experience with routine/preventative maintenance operations
