Location: Victoria Cove, New World Island (New World Island Depot, Main Highway ) 

Salary: $27.61 - $30.67 per hour (CG-29), 40 hours per week. Successful candidate(s) will also receive $12,000 in annual Market Adjustment payments (prorated) until August 2026 as per the Market Adjustment policy.

Position Details

Transportation and Infrastructure - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador 

This position provides skilled journeyperson level work with the diagnosing of problems related to light and heavy equipment as well as advanced work in a variety of other trades associated with the repair of vehicles and related equipment carried out in the Regions. Equipment includes trucks, loaders, snow plows, snow blowers, graders and air powered equipment. Work involves repairing, rebuilding and fabricating parts and components of light and heavy vehicles, vehicle systems and related equipment. Performs duties in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices pertaining to workplace and equipment. The Heavy Equipment Technician also performs emergency road services and makes field repairs. This position may oversee apprenticeship technicians. Performs other related duties as required.

Screening Criteria
 

  1. Certification as a Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician OR Certification as a Red Seal Journeyperson Truck and Transport Mechanic OR a Red Seal Journeyperson Automotive Technician with experience with heavy equipment and heavy trucks.
  2. Experience in diagnostics and repair of light and heavy equipment.
  3. Experience in electric welding and acetylene cutting. (asset)



Assessment Criteria
 

  1. Knowledge of diagnostics of heavy equipment and heavy trucks.
  2. Knowledge of repair of heavy equipment and heavy trucks.
  3. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices.
  4. Electric welding and acetylene cutting. (asset)
  5. Ability to independently solve problems.
  6. Ability to manage time and tasks.
  7. Relationship building.



Conditions of Employment

Conditions of Offer
 

  1. Valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license.
  2. Recent and satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
  3. Red Seal Journeyperson certification in required discipline.



Conditions of Acceptance
 

  1. The demands of the job occasionally result in considerable fatigue, requiring periods of rest. Examples of the kinds of physical demands include crawling under vehicles, climbing on ladders, bending, stretching, twisting while working in tight spaces, standing or kneeling on cement floors, lifting and/or moving heavy objects such as tires, rims, brake drums, etc.
  2. Regularly required to lift or move objects 25 to 50 lbs and lifting or moving objects over 50 lbs is required on a regular basis.
