Position Summary:
The role of a mechanic is vital to the transportation department and to Cascades as a whole. Aside from identifying potential issues and repairing and maintaining the fleet, a mechanics role impacts the health and safety of drivers and pedestrians, production, driver scheduling, and so on. This role reports to the Fleet Maintenance Manager and is responsible for achieving and maintaining required yearly certifications. The Mechanic work as part of the maintenance team who ensures maintenance, diagnostic testing, and repairs on trailers and Cascades equipment.
Develop your talents by applying your expertise within our facility in Etobicoke, as the Truck Mechanic:
- Organization and housekeeping daily as outlined by the company
- Clear, respectful communication and interpersonal skills
- Documentation of valid certification in good standing as required
- Ensure repair requisition tickets are readily available for transportation and production staff
- Ensure all service and maintenance practices meet the regulatory requirements for the MTO, MOL, and the MOE
- Work with Lead Hands to coordinate and control the daily scheduling of service and repair of all road and plant equipment
- Receive and sign for stock inventory from suppliers and insure properly allocated by BIN locations as outlined by Lead hand.
- Assist in providing control over parts inventory ensuring that inventory levels are kept within the predetermined minimum / maximum
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and servicing
- Facilitate safety inspections
- Repair equipment and replace parts where appropriate
- Assess equipment to see if they require to be sent out for repair
- Recognize and report faults or malfunctions on all company equipment, not limited to loaders, skid steer, forklifts and hydraulic systems
- Must adhere to safety OHS codes and conduct

- Basic Set of hand tools used for truck repair required
- Valid G Class license or greater
- Document of valid certification in good standing required
- 2 years' experience
Skills:
- Computer diagnostic
- Experience using pneumatic tools
- Hydraulics
- Basic electric systems diagnostics and repairs and reading electrical schematics
- Air brakes and air brake systems
- ABS system repairs
- Tailgate assembly skills, assembly, diagnostic and repairs
- Air suspension
- Basic use of torches and welding when required is an asset
- Preventative maintenance including electrical, interior, air brake, tire, and body maintenance as per Cascades preventative maintenance sheet.
